WIZO Sifriyat Pijama

PJ Library – in Hebrew, Sifriyat Pijama – is one of WIZO’s flagship early childhood educational programs, encouraging toddlers and their families to discover the pure joy of reading and enjoying stories together. Established in 2015 in cooperation with the Harold Grinspoon Foundation, PJ Library is conducted in 177 WIZO day care centres, benefiting over 6,000 families every year. The program is offered to 2 and 3 year olds.

Each month, every child receives a carefully selected book, often written specially for the program, to take home and read with their family. In class, the book is read accompanied by special, activities puppet theatre, songs and games. The children learn the story, repeat the words and enter the magical world of imagination. With 6,000 children receiving 8 books each year, WIZO distributes some 50,000 books each year, or over 300,000 books since the inception of the program.

Currently, WIZO is training 186 day care centre teachers in how to present this year’s books and supplementing them with enjoyable enrichment activities for the children.
