25 November 2025 Matched Giving Day 2025: A Milestone of Compassion, Community and Change
WIZO Victoria’s Matched Giving Day 2025 has set a new benchmark for communal generosity and collective action, raising an impressive $201,000 in just twenty-four hours. More than a fundraising achievement, the day became a powerful display of unity, purpose and the community’s commitment to protecting and uplifting women and children in crisis.
A Turning Point for the Gina Fromer Women’s Shelter
Among the most significant outcomes of this year’s appeal is the expanded support for the Gina Fromer Women’s Shelter, a cornerstone of WIZO Victoria’s work with vulnerable women. Thanks to the funds raised, the shelter is now able to implement an essential and long-awaited building extension, ensuring that teenagers can remain with their mothers during crisis.
For families escaping violence or severe instability, the prospect of being separated from teenage children can be a profound source of distress. This new extension brings immense relief. It allows mothers and teenagers to remain together, offering emotional continuity when needed most.
Professionals working with women’s shelters have long emphasised the importance of maintaining family unity during crisis intervention. This development, made possible by our Matching Donors and community generosity, represents a shift that will tangibly change lives for years to come.
The Momentum Behind the Mission
Matched Giving Day has evolved into one of WIZO Victoria’s most impactful annual campaign and 2025 was no exception. From early morning until midnight, volunteers and donors worked in unison, creating a wave of engagement across phone calls, social media and community networks.
Our Volunteers, many of them long-time WIZO supporters, committed their day to reaching out across the community. Group Presidents encouraged participation within their circles, demonstrating once again how leadership at every level fuels WIZO’s strength. Generous matching donors elevated the impact of each contribution, transforming every dollar into two and amplifying the community’s impact.
The campaign also benefitted from the expertise of our partners at mycause, who ensured seamless donor experience, along with the dedicated support of our marketing and design contributors, who helped articulate the message with clarity and heart.
A Reflection of Shared Values
What sets Matched Giving Day apart is not only its financial success but its embodiment of the values that define the WIZO Victoria community: compassion, responsibility, resilience and collective purpose.
In a climate where women and children continue to face escalating challenges, from family violence to housing instability, community driven support remains essential. This year’s result reinforces the fact that when people come together with intention, they can directly influence public outcomes and create meaningful social change.
Looking Ahead
The funds raised through Matched Giving Day 2025 will continue to strengthen the safety net for women and children across WIZO’s services. The new apartments at the Gina Fromer Women’s Shelter, represents a lasting legacy of this campaign, one that ensures dignity, safety and unity for families at their most vulnerable point.
WIZO Victoria extends its sincere gratitude to every individual and organisation who contributed. Whether through time, advocacy, expertise or financial support, each person played a role in creating an enduring impact.
Matched Giving Day 2025 will be remembered not only for the funds raised but for the message it delivered: when a community stands together, it can rewrite the stories of those who need hope the most.
