10 September 2026 An unforgettable 2026 Annual Gala Appeal
On the 18th of August, 2026 WIZO Victoria hosted its Annual Gala Appeal, Beyond Brave. From the moment the room came together, there was a remarkable atmosphere. The vibrant orange woven throughout the evening seemed to capture its spirit, perfectly warm, courageous and alive.
At the heart of the night was an incredible story of allyship.
Rawan Osman was passionate, powerful and candid. Through ancestry, discovery, humour and humility, she shared the extraordinary journey that led her to question long-held beliefs, confront antisemitism and stand proudly as an advocate and fearless voice for the Jewish people. Rawan reflected a deep understanding that when we as a community hear her story, we are searching for the “X factor”, hoping to decipher how her journey might be replicated and how we might find more allies willing to speak as courageously as she does.
And while she showed that she is one of a kind, Rawan imparted hope that there are many others who share her beliefs, even if they cannot yet use their voices with the same freedom or force.
Alongside her, Marnie Perlstein brought passion and thoughtfulness to every question. She guided Rawan from the personal experiences that shaped her, to her broader perspectives on Israel, antisemitism and the world around us; uncovering what mattered and the insights we could carry home with us.
Together they gave us a conversation based on respect and admiration that was inspiring and human.
Rawan spoke with connection and belonging. She did not say “you”, she said “we”. She was not standing at a distance or speaking as an outsider. As she shared so beautifully, her neshama (her soul) is Jewish. She is part of us.
That bravery and love for the endurance of Israel and the Jewish people overflowed into the room. We felt an overwhelming sense of unity and community, filled with hope, energy and generosity.
On the night we heard how the power of one individual can become part of an enormous collective difference.
